POLICE SWIFT ACTION RECOVERS SIGNIFICANT THEFT
On Saturday 30th - a Surrey-based road surfacing contractor experienced a significant theft when over £140,000 worth of equipment was stolen from a site in the Biggleswade, Bedfordshire area.
The theft occurred around 4:00 AM when the thieves broke into the site, accessed a portacabin to retrieve keys, and made off with the following equipment:
- 1x Bomag 80 roller
- Various smaller tools, including Wacker plates and Stihl saws.
- 2x Ford Transit tippers
- 2x Ifor Williams trailers
By 4:39 AM, the criminals had fled the scene. However, their escape was short-lived.
After alerting both Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire police forces, the stolen items were tracked using the TritonTrak system to a travellers site just 20 minutes away.
A thorough sweep of the site was carried out, which resulted, not only with the recovery of the stolen equipment, but also several other stolen assets as well. By midday, all recovered items were ready to be returned to their rightful owners.
Special credit goes to Bedfordshire Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) for their outstanding efforts in this recovery.
